Styling Tips For Your Console Table
Whether you’re styling an entryway or living room console, incorporating some of these tips into your styling will help bring character, balance and function to your space.
Step one - Height
Hanging a large statement mirror will add dimension and brighten a dark hallway. Alternatively, placing an oversized pieces of art on your entry console table will likewise draw the eye upwards and add a backdrop that can be used to set the tone for the space. A tall statement table light is a great way of adding height, atmosphere and a warm welcome to those visiting.
Step Two - Storage
It’s important to consider how you would like the space to function. Adding a decorative tray or bowl to store keys and set down items allows for better organisation and reduces clutter; which you will be thankful for when leaving home in a rush. A large baskets not only grounds the space but can be essential storage for shoes and bags.
Step Three - Styling
Add large decorative objects to begin; a lamp, vase with dried flowers or a sculpture to your table will provide focus to the console. Layer medium & smaller sized curios in groupings of threes whilst varying the shapes to create a balanced vignette. A stack of books or tray works wonderfully as a base for smaller pieces that can look lost without being grounded.
Step Four - Texture
Mixing materials adds depth and contrast to your space. A combination of natural textiles alongside wooden and metal objects will bring interest and personality to your space. Woven baskets, throws and textured artwork adds warmth and softness, whilst metal and reflective objects offer contrast and visual interest.
Step Five - Balance
Try to avoid adding too many items to your console and making it look cluttered, remember, less is more and allow for negative space to offer a sense of calm. Stand back and assess how the styling feels, does the visual landscape allow your eye to travel across the console with ease?
Consider subtle changes to your console table to reflect each season. This can be achieved easily by adding seasonal flowers or a scented candle to add an aromatic ambiance to your space. And lastly, have fun with your styling, take time to play with your arrangement until you’re happy with the final look.
